How to: Crab Stitch or Reverse Single Crochet

Crab stitch or Reverse Single Crochet is a simple stitch. As the name says it's just a reversed single crochet. Single crochet, done in reverse. In this tutorial, I will walk you down through every step on how to make it with pictures on how to.

It's an easy stitch but would create a beautiful finishing of your work. As you finish your project, instead of just the normal single crochet for finishing why not try the Crab Stitch? It will make your work more beautiful.

Instructions

Crab Stitches in Rows

At the end of the row, do not turn your work then Chain 1.

Insert your hook into the last stitch of the previous row.

Yarn over and pull up a loop. With this particular stitch, you have to be consistent if you want to YARN OVER, you should yarn over all the time, and if you want to YARN UNDER, then you should yarn under all the time. So that your crab stitches will look even and beautiful.

Yarn over again and pull through all loops to finish your crab stitch.

You just made your first crab stitch. Do all over again in all of the next stitches.

As you go along you will notice the stitches forming beautifully.

Here is a comparison of stitches. Single Crochet VS. Crab Stitches

Crab Stitches in Rounds

Doing Crab Stitches in Rounds is just the same as doing it in Rows.
With your last round, joined in the first stitch. Chain 1 and then go back to the last stitch of the round you just made and make your Crab Stitches starting there, working backward.

It's a good finishing for your projects. I used it often lately with my beanies for babies. Just like this one. The pattern for this cute beanie will be up soon.

It's an easy stitch, basically just your simple single crochet done in reverse. I hope you all learn something from this post and will use the stitch in your coming projects.
